With the FIFA World Cup 2026 on the horizon, Lenovo has been confirmed as the official technology partner for the tournament, and the company is deploying AI-driven solutions designed to transform how fans, athletes and officials engage with the sport.

For Lenovo, Beckham will serve as the face of its Smarter AI initiative, an effort to demonstrate that advanced technology is fundamentally about enhancing human capability and experience.

The collaboration brings together a cultural icon with a technology leader at a moment when AI is beginning to reshape professional sport at scale.

Technology meeting human performance

Beckham will help illustrate how AI-powered technology can enable individuals and organisations to perform at their highest level.

The partnership centres on the idea that innovation, when applied thoughtfully, can democratise access to tools and insights previously available only to elite organisations.

Lenovo's CEO, Yuanqing Yang says: "David is not only a global figure across football, business, and culture, but is someone who understands how innovation can transform the world.

That makes him the perfect partner to help us demonstrate how Smarter AI can drive better life and more efficient work for all."

Beckham views the partnership as aligned with his own commitment to excellence. "Lenovo is a global leader with a proven track record on the world's biggest stages," he says.

"I am proud to partner with Lenovo for the FIFA World Cup and beyond. Football will always be defined by talent, instinct, hard work and the unforgettable moments that make the game special.

"Now AI and data are helping us to understand the sport more deeply – shaping how players and coaches prepare and how fans connect with the game. I look forward to learning more about Lenovo's cutting-edge work which is opening up new ideas and expanding access to the game."

AI infrastructure for global sport

As the official technology partner for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Lenovo is implementing several AI-driven solutions across the tournament.

A central innovation is Football AI Pro, a generative AI knowledge assistant built on Lenovo's AI Factory infrastructure.

This tool could democratise deep data analysis, making resources previously available only to the wealthiest national federations accessible to all 48 participating teams.

Trained on millions of FIFA-owned data points, Football AI Pro allows coaches to query complex opponent metrics and receive analysis through text, video and 3D visualisation.

The system is designed to provide universal access to information whilst maintaining personal privacy and data security protocols.

"FIFA World Cup 26, powered by Lenovo AI, will be the most technologically advanced in history. We are providing complete IT solutions, enhancing the delivery and experience of the tournament at every level," says Yuanqing.

"Football AI Pro demonstrates smarter football for all; AI has the power to provide universal access to information while protecting personal privacy and data security. Football AI Pro will be a gamechanger and we cannot wait to see it used at FIFA World Cup 26."

Enhancing the viewing experience

For viewers and match officials, Lenovo is upgrading the semi-automated offside technology with 3D player avatars derived from precise body scans of every athlete.

This technology aims to provide clearer visualisation during VAR decisions, addressing one of the most contentious aspects of modern football officiating.

Lenovo's AI software will also process footage from referee body cameras, removing motion blur and stabilisation jitter in real-time.

This could allow the six billion expected viewers to see exactly what the referee sees during critical moments, potentially adding a new dimension to broadcast coverage.

The company is also using digital twins to manage the logistics of the tournament, which spans 16 cities across three countries.

FIFA officials will utilise this virtual mapping system to monitor crowd flow, security and technical systems across all venues. These digital twins will be available as an interactive tool on Lenovo and Motorola devices, connecting fan zones, landmarks and stadiums for the public throughout the tournament.
