Henrique Braun, current Chief Operating Officer of The Coca-Cola Company, appointed the beverage firm's new CEO
Coca-Cola has appointed Henrique Braun to succeed James Quincey as CEO in March 2026, making a leadership shift aimed at driving consumer focus

Coca-Cola has set in motion a major leadership transition, announcing that Henrique Braun will succeed James Quincey as CEO on 31 March 2026.

The move positions Henrique, currently Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), as the next leader of the world’s largest beverage company, concluding James’ nine-year run at the helm. James will transition to Executive Chairman of the Board.

The Coca-Cola Company’s board unanimously elected Henrique as CEO, citing his extensive global experience and his deep ties to the business in the announcement on 10 December.

A planned and strategic succession

Henrique, 57, joined Coca-Cola in 1996 and has worked across markets including Brazil, Greater China, South Korea and Latin America, holding senior roles in supply chain, new business development, marketing and bottling operations.

David Weinberg, the firm’s lead Independent Director, praised both the outgoing and incoming leaders: “James Quincey is a transformative leader. James set and executed a strategy that has built Coca-Cola’s status as a global leader.

“We are confident that Henrique Braun will build on the company’s existing strengths to unlock more growth opportunities and increase the power of the incredible Coca-Cola system.”

James, who also the company in 1996, became CEO in 2017. He is widely credited with transforming Coca-Cola into a “total beverage company”, modernising its marketing and digital capabilities, and guiding the business through the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his tenure, the firm added more than 10 additional billion-dollar brands and saw its stocks rise nearly 63%.

Reflecting on his transition, James said: “I’m stepping down as CEO after a 30-year career with the company, and I have an appreciation for what a privilege it has been to serve this great and enduring business.

“Henrique is a trusted and highly experienced business partner, and he’s the right leader to steer the company and the Coca-Cola system for future growth and success.”

Why was the new CEO chosen?

Henrique’s elevation to CEO follows a rapid rise through senior leadership: he became Executive Vice President in 2024 and COO in January 2025, overseeing all global operating units.

The company highlights his ability to deepen consumer connections, drive growth across varying market conditions and use technology to strengthen performance worldwide.

In accepting the role, Henrique emphasised continuity and opportunity: “I’m honoured to take on this new role and have tremendous appreciation for everything James has done to lead the company.

“I will focus on continuing the momentum we’ve built with our system. We’ll work to unlock future growth in partnership with our bottlers. I’m excited about the future of our business and see huge opportunities in a fast-changing global market.”

A leadership change reflecting market pressures

The appointment comes amid shifting consumer habits and heightened competition across the global beverage sector. Packaged food and beverage companies are adjusting strategies amid an increased demand for healthier drinks and snacks.

Coca-Cola’s strong performance in zero-sugar beverages and premium lines such as Fairlife has helped it stay resilient, even as markets like India and China increasingly favour local products.

David said: “On behalf of the board, I thank James for his outstanding leadership. James has done what a strong CEO should do - he has focused on the future and developing and empowering the next set of leaders who will take Coke forward.”

Henrique has shown that he is the right leader for the future of Coca-Cola.

As Coca-Cola moves towards 2026, the new CEO’s appointment signals both continuity and renewal, anchored in a legacy of global leadership and a vision for growth in an increasingly complex consumer landscape.
