McLaren Racing and Dell Technologies extend their partnership, demonstrating how data infrastructure drives competitive advantage

In Formula 1, where milliseconds separate victory from defeat, competitive advantage hinges on the ability to transform raw data into strategic insight.

For executive teams navigating high-stakes environments, the lessons from motorsport partnerships offer a blueprint for organisational transformation through technology.

McLaren Racing has extended its partnership with Dell Technologies, a collaboration that underpins both physical and digital performance across the organisation.

The relationship, which began in 2018, integrates Dell's high-performance technologies into McLaren's engineering workflows, race operations and esports activities.

Dell has partnered with McLaren F1 since 2018

By deploying cutting-edge infrastructure alongside competitive urgency, Dell provides McLaren with the systems required to manage data, enable precision decision-making and accelerate innovation across global teams.

"Our work with Dell Technologies has become a natural part of how we operate as a Formula 1 team," says Zak Brown, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Racing. "Their support strengthens the way we work across the organisation, helping us stay agile and competitive in a sport where details matter. Extending this partnership reflects the confidence we have in what we can achieve together."

Data infrastructure as competitive strategy

For leadership at McLaren's F1 team, the challenge of managing information architecture mirrors the complexity of engineering itself. Each race weekend generates up to 1.5 TB of data, spanning tyre telemetry and aerodynamics analysis.

Dell's AI Factory, incorporating PowerEdge servers and comprehensive AI capabilities, enables McLaren to convert this volume into actionable intelligence in real time. This supports simulation, digital-twin modelling and scenario planning ahead of critical moments such as pit stops and strategy decisions.

Dell's scalable storage and compute infrastructure forms the foundation of McLaren's digital performance platform. Dell PowerStore and PowerScale underpin Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) workloads and complex design modelling, allowing teams to iterate vehicle upgrades with speed throughout the season.

This combination of power, performance and scalability enables McLaren's engineers to collaborate across geographies and respond to Formula 1's evolving technical requirements.

Strategic partnerships beyond branding

For Dell Technologies, this extended agreement represents a demonstration of how enterprise infrastructure translates to elite performance environments rather than simply brand visibility.

Gerri Tunnel, Chief Marketing Officer at Dell Technologies

Gerri Tunnell, Chief Marketing Officer at Dell Technologies, says: "The relationship between Dell Technologies and McLaren Racing showcases what's possible when two organisations are dedicated to pushing boundaries. Dell's solutions are a catalyst for human progress.

"With McLaren, we're demonstrating how the combination of powerful technology and human ingenuity can deliver real competitive advantages in high-stakes environments – an approach that inspires innovation across industries worldwide."

The partnership reflects a broader shift in enterprise technology: deploying high-performance computing, AI-driven analytics and digital collaboration tools in sectors requiring constant iteration, including sport and media.

According to Microsoft, the company has partnered with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 to position Azure AI and cloud infrastructure at the centre of 2026 racing performance, while Google Cloud's multi-year partnership with Formula E supports performance improvement on and off the track. In broadcasting, Tata Communications' technology reaches more than two billion fans with millisecond precision.

Organisational transformation through technology

In McLaren's case, Dell's ecosystem extends beyond Formula 1 into virtual racing, where the McLaren F1 Sim Racing Team relies on Dell's hardware for esports competition.

The renewal positions Dell's AI and data infrastructure solutions as enablers for speed, precision and transformation, not only for McLaren but for any organisation pursuing performance at scale.

By integrating hardware, software and human expertise, the partnership demonstrates how continuous improvement can be embedded from the race track to the executive boardroom.

For leaders across industries, the strategic imperative is clear: technology partnerships built on scalable infrastructure and real-time intelligence create the conditions for sustained competitive advantage in environments where decisions must be made at speed.
