Google has formally completed its acquisition of cloud and AI security company Wiz, marking a decisive moment in enterprise cybersecurity leadership.

The deal – initially announced in March 2025 – signals a strategic pivot towards unified, AI-driven security platforms capable of operating at the speed and scale demanded by modern cloud environments.

For Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, the move represents a calculated response to escalating cyber threats across industries. The acquisition of Wiz adds to "Google Cloud's robust security portfolio as companies across all industries face a growing number of cybersecurity threats".

Thomas explains the strategic rationale behind the acquisition: "Wiz enables organisations to secure cloud and AI applications by connecting code, cloud and runtime into a single shared context, allowing customers to identify risks, harden environments and protect applications continuously.

"Together, we will offer an AI-powered cybersecurity platform that combines Google's Threat Intelligence and Security Operations with Wiz's Cloud and AI Security Platform to detect, prevent and respond to threats across all environments, enabling further innovation."

The deal positions Google Cloud to compete more aggressively in the enterprise security market, where traditional approaches to threat detection and response struggle to keep pace with the velocity of AI-driven application development.

Leadership vision at speed

Assaf Rappaport, CEO and Co-Founder of Wiz, frames the acquisition as an evolution of his company's founding mission rather than a departure from it. "Nearly a year ago, we shared that Wiz would be joining Google. At the time, we spoke about a belief that by bringing together Wiz's innovation and Google's scale, we could meaningfully change what security looks like in the cloud. As we officially begin our journey as a Google company, that belief feels real in a much deeper way."

Assaf maintains that Wiz's mission "remains bold and unwavering", centred on helping "every organisation protect everything they build and run". However, he acknowledges the shifting landscape: "What has changed is the world around us.

"Now, we must do this at the speed of AI. At Wiz, we believe security should accelerate progress. By combining deep understanding of cloud environments with rich context across code, cloud and runtime, we enable teams to build AI-powered applications securely from the start and strengthen them continuously as they evolve."

This perspective reflects a broader leadership challenge facing enterprise technology chiefs: balancing innovation velocity with security rigour in an environment where both threats and opportunities multiply at algorithmic speed.

Code-to-cloud security architecture

The combined Google–Wiz platform aims to deliver what industry analysts describe as a code-to-cloud security paradigm. By mapping software architecture and runtime behaviour in real time, the integrated solution provides visibility from development through production – identifying vulnerabilities and misconfigurations before they escalate into breaches.

According to Phil Bues, Senior Research Manager of Cloud Security at IDC, "Complexity is the primary challenge in the cloud today and Google is addressing the need for a simplified 'code-to-cloud' security strategy that works across any environment. By integrating Wiz's proactive multicloud visibility and risk assessment with its own AI-driven operations, Google is positioned to deliver a unified, predictive defence customers need, raising the bar in a critical market."

Jason Girzadas, Deloitte US CEO, views the acquisition as strategically significant for enterprise clients. "As a strategic alliance of both Wiz and Google Cloud, we are excited about the benefits this combination can provide for global organisations as they scale AI solutions and navigate increasingly complex and evolving cybersecurity threats," he says.

Amiram Shachar, Co-Founder and CEO of Upwind, describes the deal as positive "for the broader cybersecurity community". "For the rest of the industry, this moment reinforces just how large and important this market has become," Amiram continues. "Wiz has helped demonstrate that this category truly has no ceiling – it's one of the fastest-growing and most important markets as organisations and cloud providers continue to prioritise securing cloud infrastructure and workloads."
