How Are Saks Global's Execs Repairing the Luxury Experience?
As part of the company’s restructure, Saks Global has appointed Cheryl Han to a newly created position of Chief Marketing and Digital Officer.
In a post on LinkedIn, Saks Global shared that the company is taking steps “focused on serving luxury customers, deepening brand partnerships and driving full-prove selling across channels to create a profitable, sustainable business”.
“Our marketing and digital capabilities are vital to these efforts, enabling us to build loyalty and deliver personalised experiences for each customer,” the firm added.
The luxury retail entity, which was formed by the 2024 merger of Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in mid January 2026, following liquidity issues, vendor payment delays and declining sales.
Saks Global is now restructuring and has secured US$1.75bn in financing to stabilise the firm.
The merger had aimed to create a luxury powerhouse, however this instead brought debt for the company during the period of weakening sales.
In the new position Cheryl will be overseeing end-to-end marketing strategy and execution, including customer engagement, messaging and leveraging data-driven insights.
Who is the new appointee?
Discussing her appointment in a post on LinkedIn, she said: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chief Marketing and Digital Officer at Saks Global.
“I’m excited to partner closely with Geoffroy van Raemdonck, Darcy Penick and the entire management team to position the business for a strong future.
“Digital and marketing play an important role in achieving our goals, and I look forward to activating these disciplines to build loyalty and deliver integrated retail experiences that are tailored for each customer and how they choose to engage with us."
Cheryl has had plenty of experience in the luxury goods space, according to her LinkedIn. From starting her professional career in 2004 as an eCommerce Marketing Manager, then as a Marketing Manager at Clarins in 2007 and a Consultant at Neiman Marcus Group in 2017, she has a wealth of experience across the marketing sector.
In 2018 she joined luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman as a Consultant before progressing into more senior roles. These include VP of Online, VP of Online and Customer SVP of Online and Customer Strategy.
She then served as Chief Digital Officer and Head of Customer Strategy before leaving in 2024 to join Neiman Marcus Group as Chief Digital Officer and SVP of Customer Strategy.
Six months ago she spoke about her contribution to the union of the companies. She said: "What began as Neiman Marcus, expanded to Bergdorf Goodman, and evolved into an enterprise role at Neiman Marcus Group ultimately led to one of the most significant milestones of my career: bringing together three iconic brands - Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks - and helping shape the formation of Saks Global's Digital pillar to deliver a bold new vision for personalised luxury."
Leadership transformation at Saks Global
In January, Saks Global welcomed two executives to its leadership team. Effective 14 January, Geoffroy van Raemdonck became CEO of the group, appointed to lead the company to oversee its transformation and navigation through the bankruptcy filing.
He previously served as the CEO of Neiman Marcus Group prior to the 2024 acquisition.
Geoffroy took over from interim CEO for just under two weeks Richard Baker, following the departure of Marc Metrick, who led the company from its formation in July 2025 and held a 30-year career within the organisation.
In a post on LinkedIn, Geoffroy said: "We are building a stronger, more resilient Saks Global by taking decisive steps that will have the greatest impact on our business.
"This approach positions us for long-term leadership in luxury retail in service of our partners and customers, and Cheryl Han's appointment reflects our continued focus on strengthening our core capabilities."
Darcy Penick also joined in January as President and Chief Commercial Officer, reporting directly to the CEO. Darcy shared at the time of her appointment: "This is a pivotal moment for the company, and I'm energised by the opportunity to help lead through a meaningful transformation while building for the future.
"In this role, I'll be leading Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus Stores, Marketing, Buying Digital, Analytics and Customer care - working with our exceptionally talented team to elevate the customer experience and strengthen the commercial foundation of the business.
Cheryl reports directly to Darcy to contribute towards this strategy to ignite Saks Global's success.
