Lyu Jae-cheol will step into the CEO role on 1 December
LG Electronics has announced that Lyu Jae-cheol will become CEO on 1 December, tasked with continuing sustainable growth across the tech firm

LG Electronics has announced organisational changes amongst its leadership team that it says will focus on enhancing efficiency and build a structure capable of more agile decision-making.

At the forefront of the changes is the announcement of Lyu Jae-cheol as CEO, effective 1 December.

Currently leading the LG Home Appliance Solution Company, Jae-cheol has been successful in driving sustainable growth through expanded B2B operations and subscription-based and direct-to-consumer business models.

William Cho will step down from his four-year tenure as CEO to support “a healthy transition after laying a strong foundation for sustainable growth”, the company says.

He joined LG in 1987, then known as Goldstar, dedicating 37 years to the company, during which time he is credited with expanding its business beyond home appliances into mobility and commercial sectors.

According to LG, William has also established a mid to long term vision, connecting and extending customer experiences through transforming into a “Smart Life Solution Company”.

Introducing Lyu Jae-cheol

Jae-cheol joined LG in 1989 as a researcher in the Home Appliance Research Centre, spending half of his career in home appliance R&D. The company says he built deep technical expertise in the role that shapes his leadership approach.

Since 2021, he has served as Head of the Home Appliance Company, taking LG to the top spot in home appliance brands globally.

As CEO designate, his current role is:

  • Strengthening the leadership of flagship products, despite intensifying market competition
  • Laying the groundwork for sustainable growth through continuous R&D
  • Expanding the company’s business portfolio through appliance subscription services, online channel growth and B2B business areas

Further organisational restructuring

With the increased focus on LG’s two key B2B pillars - vehicle solutions and heating, and ventilation and air conditioning - as growth areas, the firm made two further promotions.

Eun Seok-hyan, current Head of the Vehicle Solution Company, and James Lee, current Head of Eco Solution Company, are both appointed Presidents.

In addition, Kwack Do-yeong has been appointed Region Representative of LG Electronics North America and Head of LG Electronics USA due to his experience in sales and strategy.

LG says it will ensure fast and accountable decision-making at a company level through maintaining its existing four-company structure:

1. Home Appliance Solution Company, focusing on home appliances and aiming for a “Zero Labour Home” vision.

2. Media Entertainment Solution Company, integrating LG’s TV business with information display and information technology operations to become a “platform powerhouse”.

3. Vehicle Solution Company, focusing on innovative solutions across automotive industries.

4. Eco Solution Company, operates heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) businesses as a standalone entity and manages EV charging business.

Establishing new engines

Alongside organisational efficiency, the global tech firm is using “new engines” to accelerate business areas, including HVAC, webOS and robotics.

LG’s webOS is a Linux-based operating system for smart TVs that provides an intuitive, feature-rich interface for accessing apps, streamlining services and managing content.

According to the firm, the changes include:

  • The Home Appliance Solution Company establishing the HS B2B Overseas Sales Division, growing global built-in and builder-focused business
  • Creating The Home Appliance Solution Robotics Lab to integrate select functions from the Chief Technology Officer’s Advanced Robotics Lab
  • The Media Entertainment Solution Company integrating its TV and IT Businesses into a single Display Business, and establishing a Display Product Development Group to strengthen product competitiveness

LG says all of these changes will help it in “responding to rapid external shifts, while reinforcing selective and focused operations to accelerate LG’s mid to long term portfolio strategy”.
