From Sustainable Luxury Hotels to Airports: RSG Sets the Bar

Sustainability is a growing priority within businesses of all sectors, but the developer behind regenerative tourism destinations, Red Sea Global (RSG), is defining what it means within the luxury space.

RSG has achieved a series of record-breaking milestones in sustainable design and operations, showing the company’s dedication to shaping what success means across its assets.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications have been awarded to its airport, school, one of its luxury residences and a sustainable warehouse facility in Saudi Arabia.

Discussing the success, Raed Albasseet, Group Chief Environment and Sustainability Officer at RSG, says: “These certifications are more than technical milestones. They’re proof that sustainability is embedded in everything we do.

“From 100% renewable energy generation and advanced water reuse systems to low-carbon mobility solutions, we integrate sustainability and regeneration into every aspect of our operations.

“Each certified asset demonstrates our commitment to creating positive impact, environmentally, socially and economically.”

Sustainable large-scale residences

AMAALA Triple Bay and Staff Village masterplans have achieved LEED Platinum for Communities, a globally recognised framework for sustainable urban planning and large-scale development.

This award has addressed environmental performance alongside equity, economic development, resilience, governance and quality of life, and places AMAALA among just 16 projects that have achieved the Platinum standard, according to RSG.

In October 2025, the company unveiled the first homes available to buy at the AMAALA destination, including a collection of exclusive wellness and lifestyle communities and a five-bedroom villa on its own private island.

Set between the Hijaz mountains and the Red Sea, the project is on its own private island, with penthouses that have an Aegean palette and villas overlooking a nine-hole golf course.

At the time of its announcement, Group CEO John Pagano said: “Saudi Arabia is becoming a place that more and more people are proud to call home.

“Nestled between the Hijaz mountains and azure shores of the north-western coast of Saudi Arabia, AMAALA offers a new luxury wellness community that is setting the global standard for holistic living.”

This award recognises RSG’s commitment to luxury with this upcoming ultra-wellness destination alongside complementing the region’s natural landscape. The firm says it remains set to welcome its first guests later in 2026.

According to the company, the Red Sea destination is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 that now has nine luxury hotels open. In 2025, Shura Island, at the heart of the Red Sea, began opening the first of its 11 resorts.

Success in other avenues

The real estate developer has seen success across its broad portfolio. Red Sea International (RSI) Airport has become the first airport in Saudi Arabia to achieve LEED Platinum certification by the Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).

This also places RSI among only five airports globally to receive this level of certification, recognising its sustainability framework, integrating 100% renewable energy operations, advanced energy efficiency systems and the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel for seaplane flights.

The company says that this is the “culmination of several years of cross-functional collaboration, reflecting RSG’s comprehensive approach to developing infrastructure that delivers lasting environmental, social and economic value”.

RSG has also announced that LEED Platinum certification has been granted to TBIS. At 92 points, RSG says this places the school as the highest score ever recorded under the LEED v4 BD+C: Schools rating system.

This sets the elevated benchmark for sustainable education, architectural design and regenerative learning environments.

Across its assets, RSG is elevating the expectations for commitment to sustainability across luxury lifestyles, from construction to communities.
