Samsung Electronics, a flagship subsidiary of the Samsung Group, has officially announced Tae-Moon Roh as Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division and CEO.

He will be joining Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device Solutions (DS) Division as, what Samsung is describing as, co-CEOs of the company.

Roh was appointed President, Head of the DX Division and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business in March 2022, according to the company relations page.

Samsung says he will continue to oversee the company’s mobile business as Head of MX Business, while Vice Chairman Jun will remain Head of Memory Business.

Strengthening Samsung’s technology leadership, the company has also named Janghyan Yoon as President, Chief Technology Officer of DX Division and Head of Samsung Research.

He was previously the CEO of Samsung Venture Investment, prior to which he was responsible for software platforms as well as IoT and Tizen development at MX Business.

Tae-Moon Roh’s leadership growth

Roh has been credited by Samsung as a “leading expert in smartphones who won the Technology Award in the Samsung Award of Honour in 2010 in recognition of his role in developing the Galaxy S-series”.

His career with Samsung Electronics started in 2011 as Head of Innovative Product R&D Team in Mobile Business, before moving to Head of Product Strategy Team and Innovation Product R&D Team in Mobile Business in 2014.

Roh then progressed through various leading roles in the mobile division and became Head of MX Business in 2020, a role he still holds.

Since assuming that position, Samsung says he has successfully “expanded the Galaxy ecosystem through the launches of Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Watch and more”.

Roh introduced the world’s first AI phone with the Galaxy S24 Series, which secured Samsung an early lead in the AI smartphone market.

More recently, at the start of this year he further developed AI phones with the launch of the S25 series.

In 2022, the exec was additionally named Head of Design Management Centre, and during 2025 was elected as Head of DX Division.

Achievements in leadership

Roh has been credited with being the driving force behind generating business revenue of KRW109tn (US$73.9tn) in 2023, according to Samsung, and KRW114tn (US$77.3tn) in 2024.

The company says this is down to timely and effective sales strategies, such as the Paris Olympics campaign, which included:

  • Gifting every competitor a custom-designed Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition
  • Launching a new digital community for fans
  • Creating an Olympic Village pop-up experience
  • Facilitating the ‘Victory Selfie’ feature, allowing athletes to take and share photos from the podium

Samsung also says that in the “stagnant but increasingly competitive smartphone market”, he has pioneered new categories with foldable phones and AI phones while driving efforts in new domains including Samsung Health and Samsung Care+.

Through these achievements, the company says he has created a framework for “sustainable growth”.

Other leadership changes

Earlier this year, Samsung made two other promotions, elevating Won-Joon Choi to President and Chief Operating Officer of the MX division in March.

Since taking charge of development in December 2022, he worked alongside MX Chief Roh to advance AI integration in the Galaxy lineup.

This was followed in April by the appointment of internally renowned design exec Mauro Porcini as President and Chief Design Officer of the DX Division.

He has been tasked with leading human-centred innovation across the company’s business units, including its mobile, display, TV and appliance businesses.

These appointments throughout the year have helped the company define its focus on AI power and continue the development of its Galaxy series.
