London Stock Exchange Announces 24-hour Trading for 2027

The London Stock Exchange (LSEG) has announced plans to launch LSE 24, a 24-hour round-the-clock trading venue in an effort to support the next generation of digital, algorithmic and agentic trading.
LSE 24 will allow for near-continuous trading throughout the working week (Monday to Friday) and allow global investors to have more flexibility when responding to market events, accessing liquidity across time zones and managing risk.
The venue, which will be built on LSEG’s market infrastructure, accompanies existing structures by enhancing the existing resilience of regular trade, in addition to creating new opportunities outside of UK trading hours.
Enhancing client connectivity across markets
Julia Hoggett, CEO of London Stock Exchange plc, says the new venue “marks an important step in the evolution of our markets” and that it will help support more digital and connected global markets.
LSE 24 will be available for client testing at the end of this year, with Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) launching as the first asset class in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
The venue will also enable secure native connectivity for the next generation of agent-based trading capabilities. Connectivity like this will allow clients to to interact with market data, order management and execution workflows through methods of automation, all while maintaining the governance, resilience and controls of a regulated market.
Discussing LSE 24’s integration with LSEG’s existing infrastructure, she says by integrating LSEG’s digital infrastructure into the new venue, “LSE 24 will help support deeper liquidity, greater efficiency and broader participation in our markets,” reinforcing London’s place as a key player the global financial marketplace.
“LSE 24 is about more than extending the trading day,” Julia said in a LinkedIn post. “It is an important step towards a future where trusted market infrastructure and next-generation digital capabilities work seamlessly together."

Growing demand from global investors
This move by LSEG mirrors a similar move by other trading venues in the US, such as the New York Stock Exchange and Cboe Global markets, which have launched or plan to launch a period of extended trade, subject to US regulatory approval.
Discussing this trend, Elad Lavi, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategy at eToro, says the market is seeing huge demand from its retail customers to get access to 24/5 trading, which in turn could eventually lead to demand for 24/7 trading.
He added that Crypto “opened the mind of retail investors” and that now traders “want to react to breaking news and they want to react immediately”.
Others have reacted to the suggestion of longer trading hours with ambivalence, such as The Federation of European Securities Exchanges, who say the extended trading model bears no evidence that it would be sustainable or beneficial in the long term to global investors.
As trends like 24/5 or 24/7 trading become more discussed in the marketplace, other trends, such as agentic trading, are gaining momentum.
"[Crypto] opened the mind of retail investors."
Simon Mason, Head of New Product & Market Structure, Equities at LSEG, says agentic trading will eventually be built into the new exchange.
He adds that there are traders pushing for the adoption of AI tools in trading across portfolio and market assessment and describes the trend as a growing and inevitable “evolution”.
