All You Need to Know About the Leadership Team at BYD

The story of BYDâs UK success is more than a sales headline, it reflects a leadership team capable of executing a bold international strategy, navigating policy roadblocks and responding swiftly to market demand.
As the global EV race intensifies, BYDâs performance in the UK highlights its potential not just as a top EV manufacturer, but as a future leader in the global transition to sustainable mobility.
According to CNBC, a Chinese electric vehicle powerhouse has seen its UK sales surge by 880% year-on-year. It sold 11,271 vehicles in September alone, bringing its total sales in the UK for 2025 to over 35,000.
The milestone cements the UK as BYDâs largest market outside of China, a testament to its strategic global expansion and decisive leadership.
CEO innovation
Under the visionary leadership of Wang Chuanfu, Founder and CEO of BYD, it has grown from a small battery manufacturer into a global EV powerhouse, as well as a leader in renewable energy solutions.
Known for its strategic focus on affordability and innovation, BYDâs rise reflects Wangâs long-term vision on sustainability as well.
The company continues to offer competitive pricing, with the BYD Dolphin starting at just over ÂŁ26,000 (US$34,880) - significantly undercutting rivals like Teslaâs Model 3.
BYD's current dominance in the EV market fulfils a bold prediction made over 15 years ago by Wang. Speaking in 2008, he declared his goal for BYD to become the world's largest EV company by 2025.
âFor new-energy cars, we believe we can become the global leader,â he said. âFrom the technology standpoint, 10 years should be enough. I believe Chinese companies can become leaders in the alternative car business because we make good batteries.â
With market share gains and a broadening product mix, Wangâs leadership underscores BYDâs aim to lead the global EV transition, not just through scale, but through strategic resilience.
Who are the execs leading the success in the UK?
Earlier in 2025, BYD announced key appointments within its UK leadership team, tasked with supporting further growth.
The Chinese manufacturer appointed Simon Bisp as Head of Customer Experience, responsible for enhancing customer experience from initial enquiry to purchase.
In March 2025, Simon attended the UK-China Business Forum 2025, hosted by China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), discussing BYDâs strategic focus on the UK.
The leader, who worked at Peugeot for nine years as a Sales Director and Area Operations Manager, said that what puts BYD above other manufacturers is that EVs have always been their focus: âAt Peugeot, the shift to EVs felt like a necessary direction, but at BYD, itâs in their DNA.â
Discussing BYDâs overall strategy, Simon told CBBC at the time: âOur objective is to be the number one brand in every market we enter.
âPrice and accessibility are key factors and weâve achieved price parity in the UK. Now itâs about educating customers.â
Andy Dolan was appointed in April 2025, taking on the position of Head of Retail Sales in the UK.
In a LinkedIn post in April Andy shared: âThree days in and Iâm blown away by the passion, commitment and desire that new colleagues I have already met demonstrate.
âThis brand is going places fast.â
According to Reuters, a report by The Society of Moto Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) in the first quarter of the year indicated a 654% year-on-year surge for BYD in the UK, resulting in 2,511 registrations in April 2025.
With these leadersâ contributions, the manufacturer saw the 880% year-on-year increase reported in September.
Keeping momentum
BYDâs rise comes despite challenges facing Chinese automakers in the UK, including exclusion from the governmentâs EV grant.
Yet, under Wangâs leadership, BYD continues to offer competitive pricing and the companyâs hybrid SEAL U DM-i and electric SEALION 7 models have gained strong traction among UK consumers.
Beyond passenger vehicles, BYD recently opened a battery facility in the UK to support its electric bus operations, further embedding its footprint in the British transport ecosystem.
While BYD has adjusted its global sales target down 16% to 4.6 million vehicles, according to insight by CNBC, international momentum remains strong.
