MTN Appoints New Global Sourcing and Supply Chain Executive

MTN Group has appointed Andrew Savage as Group Executive and Chief Procurement Officer, effective 1 May 2026, signalling a strategic move to strengthen procurement as a driver of enterprise growth and competitive advantage.
The decision formalises a leadership transition following his tenure as Acting Group Executive and Chief Procurement Officer
With more than two decades of experience in global sourcing and supply chain management, Andrew steps into the role at a time when procurement is increasingly central to enterprise value creation.
His appointment represents continuity in MTN's transformation agenda, alongside a renewed focus on resilience, digitalisation and sustainability as key business enablers.
Strengthening procurement transformation
Andrew's promotion reflects MTN's efforts to maintain momentum in its procurement transformation journey. Having already overseen the GSSC function in an acting role, he brings institutional knowledge and strategic consistency to the position.
His mandate centres on strengthening the integration of sourcing and supply chain operations while aligning them more closely with the Group's broader strategic objectives.
This includes enhancing agility across markets and ensuring procurement plays a key role in navigating global supply uncertainties and sustainable procurement practices.
The strategic focus could position MTN to unlock new value streams and improve operational margins across its footprint.
"I am confident that under his leadership, procurement and supply chain will continue to be a key strategic enabler for MTN," Tsholofelo Molefe, MTN Group Chief Financial Officer, said in a company statement.
Digital transformation driving business value
A key hallmark of Andrew's career has been his leadership in digital procurement transformation, which could translate into measurable business growth and operational efficiency gains.
Since joining as a Consultant in Transformation and Operational Excellence at MTN in 2015, Andrew has continuously centralised efficient procurement into the company's strategies.
From implementing eSourcing tools to advancing spend analytics and governance frameworks, he has helped modernise procurement practices across MTN's footprint.
In his new role, he is expected to accelerate these initiatives, embedding digital capabilities that improve transparency, efficiency and decision-making.
These digital enablers could provide MTN with enhanced spend visibility and supplier performance management, potentially driving cost optimisation and improving bottom-line results.
His focus on sustainable value creation ensures procurement not only delivers cost savings but also contributes to environmental and social goals across the supply chain ecosystem.
"I'm really grateful (and a little humbled, if I'm honest) to be stepping into the role of Group Executive: GSSC-Global Sourcing and Supply Chain at MTN," Andrew Savage, Executive: Global Sourcing and Supply Chain at MTN, wrote on LinkedIn.
"I'm excited for the future; for stronger partnerships, simpler ways of work and relentless execution."
Building a resilient growth platform
Andrew's career progression within MTN highlights his deep expertise in procurement excellence and operational transformation.
From centralising procurement across 22 countries to leading the Group's Procurement Excellence function, he has consistently driven large-scale change initiatives supporting MTN's expansion strategies and market competitiveness.
"He is recognised for a collaborative and people-centred leadership style and for his ability to connect people, processes and technology to deliver measurable impact," MTN said in a company statement.
As he steps into this executive role, that blend of technical expertise and stakeholder engagement could prove vital in building a resilient, future-ready supply chain.
The appointment suggests MTN is positioning its procurement function as a strategic growth driver capable of enabling market agility, operational excellence and sustainable business expansion across its diverse operating markets.
